Have an aesthetic problem but worried about damaging your natural teeth? Composite bonding is a conservative technique that can be used to fix cracked or chipped teeth, hide discoloration, and reduce gaps between teeth – with no damage to your natural tooth. New Image Dentistry will use a composite material, such as a resin or plastic, to bond to the existing tooth and fix those minor problems. This simple procedure can do wonders for brightening and enhancing your smile.
Advantages
Composite bonding is a short procedure and is relatively inexpensive. Your appointment will generally be less than an hour long, and is easy to fit into a busy schedule. Another advantage is that the composite resins are tailored to you: your dentist will choose the shade that is the closest match to your original tooth.
Proceedure
In preparation, your dentist will thoroughly clean your tooth and then will rub the clean tooth with a solution that will help the composite resin to bond to the tooth. Next, the composite resin is applied. In between every coat, the dentist will harden or set the resin using a special light. This creates the composite bond. After several coats, the dentist sculpts the bond to the desired shape.
Care of composite bonds is similar to the care of your regular teeth: in order to keep the bonds looking their best, brush and floss the bonded teeth (along with the rest of your teeth) every day. Taking good care of your bonded teeth is especially important if you smoke tobacco or drink coffee or tea. These things can stain composite bonds. If you take proper care of them, bonds might only need to be retouched or replaced every five to ten years.
