Dental treatments can sometimes be expensive. What’s the best way to avoid these extra costs? Proper self-care and good oral maintenance (along with regular check-ups) can help you to avoid decay and disease due to plaque build-up. Our hygienists are always willing to assist you with questions and tips on how to achieve the best care of your teeth and gums.
Brushing
The process of brushing can actually eliminate most of the potential damage that plaque buildup can cause. However, brushing must be regular, and must cover all the surfaces of the teeth (including the often-forgotten inner part) in order to break up the plaque. It can take only one single day for bacteria to take root in the plaque and increase your chances of oral diseases.
Replace your toothbrush at least every three months in order to keep up the plaque removal cycle. Move the brush in a circular motion, making sure to touch the gum line to ensure that all surfaces of the teeth are cleaned. In addition, make sure to brush the tongue in order to remove more bacteria and stop bad breath.
Flossing
In order to clean those hard-to-reach places where plaque loves to grow, floss daily. The most effective method of flossing is to take a piece of floss, pull it taut by holding it between your thumb and index fingers, and tug it gently in between each tooth. Repeat this process using a clean piece of floss for each tooth.
